Because acupuncture has been shown to quite effective in the treatment of stress and anxiety. The treatment protocol is typically 6 treatments either once or twice a week. Twice a week will provide quicker results. For someone with mild to moderate types of anxiety symptoms, this protocol works well. After the anxiety has calmed we typically wean someone to a once a month protocol for awhile and then treat as necessary after that.
If someone is having a more sever type of anxiety, let's say panic attacks, acupuncture can be very helpful but often is used in combination to western treatment. Often times acupuncture can reduce or in some instances eliminate the need for medications in the treatment of more sever anxiety issues. The prescribing physician will need to coordinate how to reduce and eliminate the medication.
